Wedding Flowers: Monica & Harry by EBON Floral

Take a peek with us into Monica & Harry’s Bridgeton inspired day, created by the wonderful Sydney based florist EBON Floral.

Set in the grounds of Ravensthorpe Estate on the NSW South Coast, the scene was set for all the garden party vibes this October, we chatted to Xenia of EBON Floral to find out what inspired her designs.

“The overall aesthetic was luxurious, with an English garden overtone. We used a mixture of locally grown garden roses (for the slightly wild feel, and delicious scent) and large imported reflexed roses in shades of pastel pink. We added white Canterbury bells to the mix, which further played on the English garden look – the cute little bells dancing in the breeze were delightful! We used the palest pink Phalaenopsis Orchids and Fantasia Anthurium to add that extra special touch of luxury. Also used were huge fluffy white (preserved) hydrangea, statice, and reaching sculptural branches of Elaeagnus foliage – this foliage has a silvery gold back on the leaves which we thought was such a beautiful and subtle detail.

We absolutely loved the bridal bouquet, and how Monica looked holding it against her incredible dress and pearled veil. We drew a lot of inspiration from the popular television series, Bridgerton! We felt that the style was closely aligned with Monica’s taste, and it worked out perfectly.

We also loved the impact of the ceremony installation, the way that the organic archway framed the couple was so perfect! Then, when we moved the Arbour into the Reception behind the bridal table, it took on a whole new life, and created a floral throne for Monica and Harry all night. For this, we used our signature organic Arbour which is made up of heavy iron bases, and curving, inward facing gum branches, onto which we build the flowers. The shape is like no other – it isn’t straight up and down like the usual pillars: it has a kind of organic, sculptural, naturalness about it that we haven’t seen anywhere else.

The table arrangements were all foam free and sustainable. We used some gorgeous pink footed vessels for the round tables, and long white compotes on the bridal table, with chicken wire to hold the flowers in place”.

We asked Xenia if she has any advice for our couples reading this when organising their wedding flowers – “Certainly! We feel that investing in your ceremony flowers can go such a long way. The ceremony is the big moment, and you will have the photos to look at for ever, so you may as well make it count!

Moving the Ceremony installation to the Reception is such a great use of the budget as well, because not only will you have amazing Ceremony photos, you will also have incredible Reception shots as well. Having a large install in the reception space, even if you go minimal on the table flowers, creates that impact that will capture attention, and be a lasting memory”.
